2013 Blessing of the Animals

Yesterday we had our first 'Blessing of the Animals' service.  With fall in the air and the humans bundled up, 16 dogs and 1 cat gathered on the front lawn to worship and to receive a blessing.  Below are photos as well as the liturgy from the worship service.  It was a lovely time to be together and to worship alongside those who are our dear companions!

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless these pets. By the power of your love, enable them to live according to your plan. May we always give you thanks for all creation. Blessed are you, O Holy One our God, in all your creatures. Amen.
